What KPV is
KPV is a tripeptide (lysine-proline-valine) corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). The melanocortin connection
α-MSH is a melanocortin peptide, and KPV represents its terminal fragment. Melanocortin peptides interact with a family of melanocortin receptors, which is why the system appears in receptor-pharmacology research. Another melanocortin-system compound studied for different receptor interactions is Melanotan II, a synthetic α-MSH analogue examined in melanocortin-receptor and pigmentation research.
